his spot was truly a spectacular little find. The plan was to go to DuToits Kloof and spend the day there fishing the streams and braaing.
After packing up and heading out, upon arrival, only to find it closed and being used as a quarantine site for covid, we very hastily made our way out of there!!!(picture: hearing this, shouting to the kids not to touch anything and bolting as fast as possible)
We were now in search of a spot that we can fish without the stresses of kids falling into water and needing constant supervision. We had friends with us that have an 18 month old.
I came across Le Ferme in Franshoek, this place seriously ticks all our boxes.✅✅✅
Fishing, Braai facilities, open grass patches, rivers and generally quite safe for little ones. (With small kids requirements can be quite particular)
It's a down to earth run establishment that has superb views of the Haweqwa, Simonsberg and Hottentots-Holland mountain ranges.
They have 4 fishing dams all within walking distance of each other that are stocked with trout, bass, tilapia and carp.
Eventually we arrived with 2 cars, 2 families, 4 kids under 10 and ready to spend the day outdoors.
I am sure the flyfisherman that were already there were not too impressed with the level of noise and chaos that spilled out of the car upon our arrival. It's was, emphasis on was, super tranquil and peaceful.
We did try to be conscious of them so we parked as far away as possible from the handful of people scattered across 4 dams.
If you don't have fishing gear, they do also have a small shop where you can hire equipment for the day.
It cost us R150 per adult and R75 per child to fish.
The Wemmershoek River also runs through the farm which was super fun to go explore with the kids.
You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks so this is just perfect. As our intentions were to Braai in the bergs.
They also have 6 super friendly dogs that come say hi regularly during the day. This entertained the kids endlessly, playing catch with the dogs.
All in all this is definitely a spot that will become a staple weekend excursion.
